How Do You Use Google Drive for Whatsapp Backup

Whatsapp offer backup in Google drive now. You can back up your chat messages, Images, Video and Audio to Google Drive so that if you lose your mobile or change to another Android OS Mobile, your conversations are safe. In order to use Google Drive back-up, you need to have:

  1. Activate Google Account in your mobile
  2. Installed Google Play services in your mobile from Google play store. Note: Google Play services are only available for Android 2.3.4 and higher.
  3. Enough free Google Drive space for your WhatsApp messages and media, such as Images, audio and video clips
  4. Enough free space on your mobile to create the back-up.

Creating a Google Drive backup for Whatsapp

How to create a Google drive backup:

  1. Open WhatsApp.
  2. Go to Menu Key > Configurations > Conversations and phone calls > chat back-up.
  3. Tap on Back up to Google drive and set up the back-up regularity as per your your preference.
  4. You will be prompted to decide on a Google account that you will backup your messages history to. If you do not have a Google account, tap Add account when assured. Please remember the google account you are using for the back-up.
  5. Tap on back up over to pick out the system you wish to use for back-up. Please note that back up over mobile may result in additional data expenses.

You can also personally back up your chats to Google drive at any time:

  1. Open WhatsApp.
  2. Open Menu > Settings > Chats and calls > chat back-up.
  3. Tap on Back up to Google drive and select a back-up regularity other than Never.
  4. Tap on Back up to begin your Google drive back-up. This process may take a few minutes.

Note: Based on the size of the chat, the first complete back-up could take a while. We suggest that you link your phone to a Charger or power bank. However, following back-ups are step-by-step, thus not demanding a completely new back-up of all your data every time.

Restoring from a Google Drive backup

In order to efficiently recover a Google drive back-up, you need to use the same contact number and Google account used to create the back up. Then, adopt these measures to reinstate your backup:

  1. Make sure the same Google Account that was used to perform the back-up has been added to your mobile phone.
  2. Remove and re-install WhatsApp.
  3. After confirming your phone number, you will be instigated to reinstate your messages and media from Google drive
  4. After the recovery process is finish, tap on Next and your conversations will be shown once initialization is finish.
  5. After repairing your conversations, WhatsApp will begin repairing your Media information.

Note: If you are setting up WhatsApp without any prior back-ups from Google drive, WhatsApp will instantly recover from your regionally saved back-up information.

Configuring your Google Drive backup settings

To modify the frequency of your Google Drive backup:

  1. Open WhatsApp.
  2. Go to Menu key > settings > chats and calls > Chat back-up.
  3. Tap on Back up to Google Drive.
  4. Set the back-up frequency to your liking.

To adjust to which account you want to back up your chat history:

  1. Open WhatsApp.
  2. Go to Menu Button > settings > chats and calls > Chat back-up.
  3. Tap on Account and select the account you wish to back up your chat history to.

Note: If you modify your Google drive, you will not be able to access your backups that are linked to a different Google Account.

To modify the connection you wish to use for backup:

  1. Open WhatsApp.
  2. Go to Menu > settings > chat and calls > Chat back-up.
  3. Tap on back up over and select the network you wish to use for back-up.
